Finishing
Systems Available for Enclosures
Standard
Finish - phenolic primer gloss epoxy finish coat
Primer - 83040 Industrial Phenolic
Primer applied @ 1.5-2.0 mils dft.
Finish coat - ClovaCoat 300
high build epoxy applied @4-6 mils dft high gloss finish.
System advantages: Primer adheres well to satin coat steel.
Good corrosion resistance. Topcoat is very tough. Resistant to weather,
moisture, solvents, salt water, fresh water, abrasion, acids, alkalis,
oil.
System disadvantages: Top coat tends to chalk especially
in dark colors, however this does not affect coating performance.
Optional
Low Gloss Finish
- phenolic primer gloss epoxy finish coat
Primer - 83040 Industrial Phenolic
Primer applied @ 1.5-2.0 mils dft.
Finish coat - 83150 ClovaGuard
high build epoxy applied @4-6 mils dft low gloss finish.
System advantages: Primer adheres well to satin coat steel.
Good corrosion resistance. Topcoat is very tough. Resistant to weather,
moisture, solvents, salt water, fresh water, abrasion, acids, alkalis,
oil.
System disadvantages: Top coat tends to chalk and yellow
in sunlight this does not affect coating performance.
Optional
High Gloss Finish - epoxy primer aliphatic urethane top
coat
Primer - ClovaPrime 21 high
build epoxy primer applied @ 2-3 mils dft.
Finish coat - ClovaThane aliphatic
urethane applied at 2-3 mils dft high gloss finish.
System advantages: Primer has excellent adhesion and moisture
resistance. Top coat and primer are very resistant to the following:weather,
moisture, salt water, fresh water, abrasion, acids, alkalis, oil.
Top coat has excellent gloss retention.
System disadvantages: This system is approximately twice
the cost of standard system above.
Economical
Finish - (not recommended) phenolic primer and industrial
enamel top coat.
Primer - phenolic primer
Finish coat - Industrial Enamel
high gloss finish
System advantages: Primer primer adheres well to satin coat
steel and has good corrosion resistance. Low cost top coat good
for very mild exposure.
System disadvantages: Top coat does not afford much protection.
Low chemical and moisture resistance. On roof structures where water
pools it can fail.
For
severe exposure a minimum SSPC-Sp6 commercial blast is recommended
for structural steel base framing. This removes contamination and
a large portion of mill scale leaving a good surface profile. Clovaprime
21 is recommended to cover the blast profile and then Clovacoat,
Clovaguard or Clovathane can be used.
